About Us

Welcome to Northside School

Northside School is a rural, TK-6 elementary school located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas with an average enrollment of 320 students. Located in Cool, California, Northside also serves students from the small towns of Greenwood and Pilot Hill. Part of the Black Oak Mine Unified School District, Northside was awarded California Distinguished School status for excellence in education in 2002 and 2014. Northside’s pursuit of academic excellence is exemplified through indicators such as access to state of the art curricular and instructional materials, supplementary programs such as the School Garden Program, Northside Enrichment Days, Music Club, Maker Space, PTA/Dream Team and Rocky's Rangers student service club.

Northside students are served by a fully credentialed staff of one principal, 11 regular classroom teachers, one RSP/Learning Center teacher and one special day class teacher; and the following specialists: a speech therapist, and a psychologist. Counseling services and a PIP program are also offered to support students. Students in grades 4-6 have elective classes in physical education, music and technology. Support staff includes a school secretary, office assistant, health specialist, instructional aides, noon duty aides, maintenance custodian, evening custodian, and cafeteria staff. With the assistance of the PTA/Dream Team and community, we are able to have a Garden Coordinator and Music Club.

Northside has an active PTC that supports our staff and students. Many of the accomplishments of the students and school are made possible through the financial support and effort of the PTC volunteers. The Heart of Cool Trail Run is one of our biggest fundraisers in connection with our school Dream Run.
